Two frameworks, one system
CQC's Single Assessment Framework and ISO 9001 look different on paper, but they share the same underlying idea: evidence-led governance, outcomes for people, and continuous learning. Providers that run one integrated system tend to score better on both.
Where the frameworks map
- Safe → ISO 9001 risk-based thinking, nonconformity management, corrective action.
- Effective → ISO 9001 competence, monitoring and measurement, management review.
- Caring → ISO 9001 customer focus, feedback and improvement loops.
- Responsive → ISO 9001 planning changes, resource management.
- Well-led → ISO 9001 leadership, context, policy and objectives.
Gaps to close explicitly
ISO 9001 does not cover regulated activities, notifications, safeguarding referrals or duty of candour — those remain CQC-specific obligations. Treat them as compliance obligations inside your ISO 9001 system and evidence them the same way.
